As Maysville Mason County makes comprehensive plans for the future, we must consider data from the trends that brought us to this point and develop strategies to fund the community services, infrastructure, and cultural activities citizens expect in the twenty-first century.
During Maysville Mason County Joint Planning Commission’s investigation of one potential land use, Troy Craycraft, Mason County’s PVA, testified under oath that each acre of Large-scale solar can increase contributions to local tax districts’ revenue. (Assumes lease rate of $650/acre/year)
Large-scale solar also has these additional benefits:
- Protects our topsoil for future generations.
- Reduces chemical pollution in local watersheds.
- Generate an additional $64 million to replace lost tobacco and dairy income
- Increase the number of local high-value job opportunities.
- Increase the real estate tax base to support local services.
- Don’t add a long-term burden to local infrastructure.
In addition, solar lease income paid to local landowners will allow them to spend money locally as well as make more charitable contributions.
