As Mason County makes comprehensive plans for the future, we must consider data from the trends that brought us to this point. The 2017 USDA census shows Mason County’s annual agricultural sales (in 2022 dollars) declined $64 million between 1974 and 2017.

This decline in rural sales has reduced property tax revenue and increased pressure to convert pasture to continuous cash grain and/or sell road frontage acres for housing without sanitary sewer availability.
